How to Use the Baybayin Translator

A Quick Intro to Baybayin
Baybayin is an indigenous Filipino script that belongs to the Brahmic family of writing systems. It's an abugida — each character represents a consonant + vowel syllable, with small diacritical marks called kudlit used to change the vowel sound. The script reads from left to right and has 17 core characters covering 3 vowels and 14 consonants.
Though the Spanish colonial period led to the widespread adoption of the Latin alphabet, Baybayin never truly disappeared. Today it's experiencing a vibrant revival — appearing in tattoos, murals, clothing, and education movements across the Filipino diaspora. At Ugat Clothing, we've created our own custom Baybayin font series — including the Block and BOLO fonts — to bring the script into everyday wearable design.
💡 Good to know: Baybayin doesn't have a direct one-to-one match for every English or Spanish sound, so some letters — like F, V, C, Q, X, and Z — are approximated when translating non-Tagalog words. The translator handles this automatically.
