Top 10 Filipino Karaoke Songs, Ranked by Danger Level

No Filipino party is complete without the videoke machine. These are the songs that rule the night. (Song titles only — sing the words yourself.)

1. "My Way" — Frank Sinatra

Filipino karaoke's unofficial anthem. So many arguments have broken out over it that Philippine newspapers coined the term "My Way killings," and some bars stopped playing it. Sing at your own risk.

2. "Leaving on a Jet Plane" — John Denver

The OFW song. It hits different when half your family lives abroad.

3. "Pare Ko" — Eraserheads

The one that turns the living room into a mosh pit. Pure OPM.

4. "Faithfully" — Journey

The power ballad that reveals who's been practicing in the shower.

5. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" — Bonnie Tyler

The dramatic entry. Someone always does the arms.

6. "I Will Always Love You" — Whitney Houston

The great separator. Either you can, or you definitely cannot.

7. "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang" — Pops Fernandez

The tita classic, always requested after the second round.

8. "November Rain" — Guns N' Roses

Nine minutes, solo included. Mic hog certified.

9. "Don't Stop Believin'" — Journey

The group sing. Lolo, tita and the cousins all join in. Nobody stays seated.

10. "My Heart Will Go On" — Celine Dion

The closer. The room goes quiet, then everyone sings together. Someone cries. Nobody admits it.

Honorable mentions

"Harana" (Parokya ni Edgar), "Narda" (Kamikazee), "Forevermore" (Side A), "Zombie" (The Cranberries), and "Feelings" — lolo's pick, every time.

Why do Filipinos love karaoke so much? Part of it is that the karaoke machine itself has Filipino roots: Filipino inventor Roberto del Rosario patented a sing-along system in the 1970s. Mostly, though, it's because singing together is how we celebrate.

What's your go-to song?
