UC Davis: Indigenous Philippines & Ancient Scripts


Learn more about the history and the present-day struggles of indigenous communities in the Philippines! There will also be a hands-on introduction to the indigenous and ancient writing systems of the islands, such as the Tagalog script, Baybayin, and the Kapampangan script, Kulitan. WHEN: 5-7pm, Monday, May 8, 2017 WHERE: 3114 Hart Hall WHO: This workshop is open to EVERYONE! PRESENTERS: Kirby Araullo (Rise Up Yolo!/ UC Davis Asian American Studies), a Filipino historian and an expert on indigenous Philippine scripts. Amado Canham (Rise Up Yolo!/Anakbayan), a community youth organizer who recently returned from an exposure trip with the indigenous Lumad communities of Mindanao.
