Barong Style Mesh Tee: Delano Manongs
On September 8, 1965, Filipino farmworkers in Delano, California, led by Larry Itliong and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee, walked out of the grape fields and started the Delano Grape Strike. They asked Cesar Chavez and the National Farm Workers Association to join them, and together they built what became the United Farm Workers. This tee honors the manongs, the generation of Filipino laborers who sparked the farmworker movement, titled in Baybayin, a pre-colonial script of the Philippines.
It takes the look of the barong Tagalog, the Philippines' national dress, and remakes it as a lightweight, breathable mesh tee with a relaxed boxy fit, made for warm days, festivals and everyday wear.
