About UGAT
Filipino streetwear from San Jose, California. Rooted in history since 2008.
UGAT means "roots" in Tagalog, and our logo is the word written in Baybayin, the pre-colonial Philippine script. We started in San Jose in November 2008 as Know Your Roots Apparel, opened our first shop at Great Mall in 2009, and became UGAT in 2010. The name changed; the mission didn't.

Our Story
Every design starts with a story most of us were never taught in school: the Manila Men who settled Louisiana in 1763, the Delano Manongs who started the 1965 Grape Strike, Lapu-Lapu at Mactan, the gods and creatures of Philippine mythology. We turn those stories into tees, hoodies, mesh barongs and jerseys, and we write about them on our Learn blog so the history travels with the shirt. We make it for Filipinos everywhere, in the diaspora and in the Philippines. Whether you grew up in Daly City or Davao, this is your history too. Know your history. Wear your roots.
